18 year-old Kauai man arrested for burglarizing a vacation rental

‘ANINI — A Kīlauea man was arrested Friday afternoon following two thefts on ‘Anini Road.

The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. Friday, when two families reported being the victims of a burglary at their vacation rentals on ‘Anini Road.

A bystander witnessed a male subject leaving one of the homes and fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Police traced the vehicle to the home of 18-year-old Jonathan Hoomanawanui who had stolen an undisclosed amount of cash and various electronics, including two laptops and a camera.

Most of the stolen cash and items were recovered and returned to the owners.
Hoomanawanui was arrested for first degree burglary and second degree theft.

He has since been released on $6,000 bail.
