70-year-old man completes row from San Diego to Honolulu

A 70-year-old man from Japan has done the unthinkable.

Ikuo Tateo completed a 48-day row from San Diego to Honolulu this past Friday.

Tateo used the technique known as sculling to complete his mission, and survived the nearly two months at sea on ramen, rice and water.

This was actually his third attempt to get to the islands.

In 2004, he tried twice to scull from Japan to Hawaii.

Solar panels on his boat powered the lights and his ham radio.

Tateo said the hardest part about his journey was getting sea sick.

He says he will never row again, but that doesn’t mean he plans to stay out of the water.

Tateo will fly back to Japan where he will plan to sail around the world.
