Nearly 800 pounds of fresh green onions have been destroyed at a Waianae farm after an unapproved pesticide was found during product sampling.
The monthly sampling discovered Oxamyl, which is not approved by the EPA for use on green onions.
The State Department of Health says it watched Tuesday as the farm destroyed the crops.
The farm will not be allowed to sell further green onion crops until samples no longer indicate the pesticide.
The pesticide is ok for use on other produce, so the health department does not believe this case poses a significant threat to public health.
