A wanted fugitive has been captured here in Honolulu and authorities say it’s all thanks to Facebook.
Travis Theile is wanted in Ohio for back child support payments, about $75,000 worth.
Honolulu police worked with authorities in Ohio to track him down and here’s how they did it- by following his posts on his Facebook page.
The information there told police that the 44-year-old was now living in Honolulu and was attending a local college.
"In this case, his page, his profile was totally open to the public and he was just going on and on and on," said Sgt. Kim Buffett of CrimeStoppers."They’re posting, they’re blogging about their life and we’re watching them just as much as everybody else. So if we’re watching them, who else is watching them?"
He was arrested Tuesday afternoon on Kapiolani Boulevard near Keeaumoku Street.
He will now be extradited to Ohio.
Honolulu police say this was the first time a fugitive has been captured here through the use of social media.
