HONOLULU (AP) – Newly released data ranks Hawaii 26th in the nation for key indicators of child health and well-being.
According to the 2011 Kids Count data to be published Wednesday by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Hawaii is one of five states with the biggest drops in rankings. The Aloha State ranked 11th in the mid-2000s.
This year’s data shows the impact of the recession on children.
Ten percent of Hawaii’s children lived with at least one unemployed parent last year, compared to 11 percent nationwide. Three percent of children in Hawaii were affected by foreclosure in 2007, compared to 4 percent nationwide.
The data also shows that 33 percent of Hawaii’s children lived in single-parent households in 2009.
