UH lecture on Hawaii-born Challenger astronaut

HONOLULU (AP) – Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka’s brother is to present a lecture at the University of Hawaii.

Claude Onizuka is to speak about the astronaut’s life at the free Aug. 25 event at the Manoa campus.

Ellison Onizuka was a mission specialist on the Orbiter Challenger mission that launched from Kennedy Space Center on Jan. 28, 1986.

The seven-person crew died when the Challenger exploded 1 minute and 13 seconds after launch.

He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
