The President’s Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan toured the project with the Governor this afternoon.
He said he was inspired by the public-private partnership that helped improve and renovate the homes.
Federal funds contributed to the renovations, and the building of a new learning center.
So we were able to keep the rents affordable to all the families so we were able to do all the renovations to all the units with no displacements," says Dave Nakamura, Mutual Housing Association of Hawaii.
With federal funds in short supply…partnerships like the one put to use in Palolo are being looked at for housing across the nation.
The governor and housing secretary also visited Mayor Wright housing, where partnerships are being looked at to make much-needed renovations.
