Part of Saddle Road on the Big Island is closed while fire crews try to douse a large brushfire.

The brushfire broke out near the 45 mile marker on Saddle Road sometime around 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Officials have closed Saddle Road from the intersection with Route 190 on the west side of the island to the 8 mile marker on the east side of the island.

Motorists are urged to use Route 17 along the Hamakua Coast to get to Hilo.

Big Island Civil Defense officials say that the fire is in an area that is not easily accessible and that helicopters are being used to help put out the fire.
