UPDATE: The body of a 28-year-old male visitor was recovered by rescue personnel in waters off Polihale Beach on Kauai at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Kauai County officials identified the victim’s as Steve Kim, 28, of Ontario, Canada.
Officials say Kim was swept out to sea while swimming with his brother in the breakers about waist deep at Polihale Beach late Tuesday.
A few minutes later, a surfer on the beach unsuccessfully attempted to locate the swimmer after his brother lost visual contact with him.
The U.S. Coast Guard helicopter assisted in the search on Tuesday until 9:00 p.m.
Air 1 with Rescue 3 personnel onboard provided air search until dark Tuesday and resumed the search at daybreak Wednesday morning.
The victim was located 30 yards offshore on the west end of Polihale Beach Park only a few minutes after Air 1 resumed the search.

The Coast Guard is searching for 27-year-old man that was reported missing on Tuesday in waters off Polihale Beach, Kauai.
According to Coast Guard officials, the man was reported missing by his brother shortly before 6 p.m.
Officials say the man’s brother said he saw the man run into trouble while swimming and did not resurface after going underwater.
The Coast Guard will continue searching for the man overnight.
They are also searching for a man that went missing Monday afternoon near Kiahuna Plantation in Poipu.
