Organizers of the World Invitational Hula Festival say they need to come up with $10,000 by Tuesday.
The festival, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, has already been scaled back due to a venue change from the Waikiki Shell to the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
The change was made due to APEC.
Not only are organizers dealing with expenses tied to the switch, but also a substantial drop in funding.
"We’re in danger of losing the festival. By tomorrow we’re supposed to have $5,000 for a videographer," said Keoni Hays of the World Invitational Hula Festival. "We’re supposed to come up with $5,000 for a program book otherwise we won’t have a program book."
Organizers are also dealing with transportation issues since the dancers will have to get out of Waikiki for their performances at the Blaisdell November 10 through the 12.
