For several years, KHON2 has shared the story of a Maui family that has produced the biggest pumpkins the state has ever seen.
Year after year, Aaron and Stephanie Burkert have grown and named enormous pumpkins in their tiny pumpkin patch in Kula, including “Bill” and “Myrtle” in 2004.
Their biggest was 1,023 pounds.
They credit Kula’s climate, soil quality and a ton of water.
Well this year, they didn’t grow a giant pumpkin because they were busy raising a small pumpkin.
This is baby thane who is now seven months old. Aaron and Steph call him their little miracle.
The family hopes to be back in the pumpkin patch next year.
