The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the islands of Hawaii and Maui.
According to the National Weather Service, rain gages near Hilo showed heavy rain falling at one to three inches per hour in the Mountain View area. A flood advisory is in effect for this area until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
Radar also showed heavy rain falling at one to three inches along leeward Haleakala from near Ulupalakua to Kula, extending to the windward slopes and coast from Huelo to Nahiku.
The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas.
