9 hikers rescued on Maui after weather turns sour

A total of nine hikers were rescued from Bamboo Forest, also known as Commando Trail, on Maui after heavy rains caused them to get stranded.

According to fire officials, six hikers were stranded on of the side of a stream after a flash flood caused them to get stuck. While rescue teams were working to retrieve those hikers, they received another distress call from three other hikers who were stranded upstream near the third waterfall on the trail.

Officials say rescue crews were able to make contact with the first group of hikers around 4:30 p.m and were able to get all the hikers to safety just after 5 p.m. No injuries were reported
