54-acre lagoon planned for new Hoakalei Resort

A new water-front community planned for Ewa Beach is getting a new look before it’s even built.

Developers from the new Hoakalei Resort scrubbed a plan to build a marina in the complex.

Instead, the settlement will feature a 54-acre lagoon complete with a swimming area, canoe hale and areas reserved for water sports like kayaking and stand up paddling.

Developers say the lagoon will not impact any of the archaeological sites or the surrounding shoreline, that was the concern with the original plan to build a marina.
