Rep. Blake Oshiro joins Abercrombie as Deputy Chief of Staff

The governor has selected House Majority Leader, Rep. Blake K. Oshiro as his Deputy Chief of Staff.

Oshiro has served in the house since 2000, representing the Aiea, Halawa Valley, Halawa Heights, and Aiea Heights areas.

"I congratulate Blake for his appointment as Governor Abercrombie’s Deputy Chief of Staff," Speaker of the House Calvin Say said in a statement. "Although Blake’s departure is a big loss to the House, his appointment to a major executive branch policy position represents a much bigger gain for the State of Hawaii."

Oshiro replaces Andrew Aoki, who resigned last month citing family reasons. His resignation came along with a handful of other members of the Abercrombie administration.

As for Oshiro’s house seat, under state law, the governor must appoint a replacement for a state representative within 60 calendar days after the lawmaker’s resignation.
