A cancer survivor is suing Kaiser Foundation Health Plan Inc.

The suit alleges that in January 2010, Kaiser misdiagnosed a rare form or neuroendocrine cancer that had stricken Maui High School Teacher Michael Siopes and had started an improper and potentially dangerous course of treatment.

The suit also states that a proper second opinion consultation was not scheduled.

Siopes eventually went to Duke Medical Center and got treatment that eventually cured him.

He wants Kaiser to cover the costs of treatment at Duke.

Kaiser declined to comment on the suit.
