Barriers come down in Waikiki

State crews were busy removing concrete jersey barriers in Waikiki Monday morning.
The barriers were part of the security zone near the Hale Koa Hotel and the Hilton Hawaiian Village and extended to Saratoga Road.
Nine concrete barriers were also put into place on Fort DeRussy Beach.
This one was the last to be removed.

"Definitely we lost a lot of business with the rentals and everything, but finally getting it out of here so we can get everything rented again.   We got our kayaks and stuff back today so it’s looking good," said Mark Johnson of Waikiki Shore Beach Service.

"Waikiki is back to normal, they finally got all those terrible barriers down and I guess we’re okay again," said Eggs ‘N Things assistant manager Damian Zukeran.

Many Waikiki businesses reported significant losses during the APEC summit; several even closed their doors during the weekend.
