New leadership for Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii

Carole Hayashino has been appointed President & Executive Director of the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii.

Hayashino, who begins her new job in January, will oversee the 24-year-old non-profit organization.

A search was initiated in August when current JCCH President & Executive Director Lenny Yajima Andrew announced she will retire from her position at the Cultural Center.

“Carole’s extensive involvement and knowledge of the Japanese American communities and her background as a development officer impressed the search committee,” said Curt Otaguro, Chairman of the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii Board of Directors and Chairman of the search committee.

“The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii is well recognized as the source of Japanese American experiences and I am humbled to accept this position,” said Hayashino.  “I am excited to begin working with the staff, volunteers, members and the community to continue the programs, exhibits, research and especially the educational tours of the elementary school children.”

Hayashino currently serves as Vice President for University Advancement at California State University Sacramento.  She also served as Associate Director of the Japanese American Citizens League in San Francisco and was involved in the national legislative effort for redress and reparations for Americans of Japanese Ancestry interned during World War II.
