Hundreds gather at annual Homeless Awareness Conference

Success stories were shared in Waikiki Tuesday as non-profit and government agencies gathered to discuss the homeless issue.
The annual Homeless Awareness Conference came with an emphasis on community partnerships with the private sector and government.
While many agencies have outreach programs that offer services, they say it’s up to each person to accept that help.

"If we keep beating our heads against, why don’t they go to shelters, why won’t they get abuse treatment, why won’t they do this, you’re asking the wrong question. The question is what else can we do how can we shift our thinking," said Joe Bright, who used to be homeless.

Joe Bright says the homeless issue is very complex and writing about it helped him stay focused on a goal.  He moved off the streets last July.
