HPD major arrested on drug charges

There are new legal problems for a Honolulu police major already facing federal charges for extortion.
Federal authorities arrested Carlton Nishimura at his home in Waianae Monday night.
They say they were executing a search warrant and found a brown paper bag that contained five clear plastic baggies, with a white crystalline substance.
Preliminary testing indicated the substance was crystal meth.
Federal court documents say they also found digital scales, which are frequently used in the distribution of illegal drugs.
Back in February, Nishimura was indicted on federal charges of extortion, tampering with a witness and making false statements, all in connection with allegedly getting paid for tipping off operators of illegal game rooms on upcoming raids.
After those charges were filed, Nishimura turned over his duty weapon and had his police powers restricted.
There’s been no comment yet from HPD on the latest charges.
