WASHINGTON (AP) — An arrest has been made in connection with an investigation into a shooting near the White House.
The Secret Service says Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez was arrested today by Pennsylvania authorities at a hotel. He’s now in Pennsylvania State Police custody. Officials say he was arrested after a tip from someone who saw him and identified him.
Yesterday, the Secret Service discovered that two bullets had hit the White House. One of them apparently cracked a window on the residential level.
The discovery of the bullets followed reports of gunfire near the White House on Friday night, although the bullets have not been conclusively connected with that shooting. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle were away at the time, on a trip to California and Hawaii.
An assault rifle and an abandoned vehicle were found, and that led authorities to link Ortega to the reported gunfire.
The 21-year-old is from Idaho, and was reported missing last month by his family. U.S. Park Police have said he has an arrest record in three states but has not been linked to any radical organizations.
