Deployment ceremony held for 25th Infantry Combat Aviation Brigade

What could be the last year-long aviation deployment of U.S. forces to Afghanistan took place Friday in Hawaii.

A deployment ceremony was held at Wheeler Army Airfield Friday for the 25th Infantry Combat Aviation Brigade.

They’re heading off for a year-long assignment for operation enduring freedom, but they will have time at home for the holidays.

"Almost 100% of our soldiers will be here for Christmas holidays and that’s just great to get that last opportunity with the family on such a special time," said Col. Frank W. Tate of the 25th Infantry Combat Aviation Brigade.

The brigade’s training for deployment included exercises on the Big Island that replicated the high-altitude mountain environment they’ll face in Afghanistan.

In addition to providing aviation support for ground troops, they’re also training Afghanistan’s air force.
