The Army is scheduled to hold a ceremony at Wheeler Army Airfield on Monday to celebrate the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion homecoming. The returning soldiers are the first in a wave of division troops expected to come home to Hawaii from Iraq.
The unit has been serving as the support element for the 25th Infantry Division headquarters in Iraq since early this year.
The headquarters was responsible for leading the U.S. mission to advise, train and assist Iraqi security forces in central Iraq.
It is also currently the last U.S. forces division headquarters in Iraq. It’s responsible for overseeing operations until U.S. forces finish withdrawing from the country.
