Residents living at the Waikiki Lanais had to evacuate Saturday morning because of a fire in the building’s parking garage.
It happened on Tusitala St. around 5:15 a.m. on the third floor of the garage. Fire officials say somehow mattresses and a dresser stored behind a truck caught fire.
The flames then spread to the truck and two other vehicles. More than a dozen residents were evacuated.
Two Honolulu police officers on-duty were the first on the scene. They helped put out the fire before firefighters arrived.
The fire was under control around 6:20 a.m. No one was injured, and the fire was confined to the garage area.
Fire investigators said the cause was undetermined. Damage to the vehicles and the structure is estimated around $60,000.
