Nestled inside is a 30 -foot by 60-foot synthetic ice skating rink.
Same feel, a little different. I mean you just gotta get used to it. Got the slide, got the slip and I mean you can still slip and fall on your butt," says Mike Miller, X-1 World Events.
The artificial ice is made from sheets of white plastic panels that are coated with a water soluble liquid.
A lot of the hockey players and a lot of the figure skaters i guess they use this as their practicing," says Miller.
Mike Miller has been promoting and producing mixed martial arts events statewide for years…he’s also put together the Halloween haunted house in the same location since 2010 and now he and a few others have decided to do something for the community this holiday season.
We are here too it’s a cause that we are pushing for non profit aloha first its kind of a give back to the Native Hawaiians, we also going to have Native Hawaiian art too," says Miller.
At $10 an adult and $5 for keiki the synthetic ice skating rink is equipped with special lighting, music and skates.
Miller bought 80 pairs of brand new hockey ice skates for the rink which can hold 30-40 people.
This weekend marks the rink’s soft opening with other special events to come.
Next weekend we are going to have eat the street here, choke grinds, choke food, a lot of people, a lot of activities, we are going to have bouncers outside," says Miller.
He plans to keep the rink open every weekend through the end of the month with the hope of bringing it outside and into the new year too.
Ice skating is fun but I mean its something that we can do without having a jacket without wearing a big coat," says Miller.
And I give it two thumbs up…feels just like the real thing.
