That’s the latest word from the State Department of Transportation.
The projects are expected to start in February .. to fix the lights on the H-1 freeway .. from the Makakilo to Kunia interchanges .. and on the H-2 freeway, from the Waiawa to Leilehua interchanges.
They’ve been out for several years because of copper thefts.
"We went in and replaced that copper then it was promptly stolen again. so there’s a certain amount of frustration there. and technically the dot doesn’t need to put lights in those areas because they’re rural areas and it’s not mandated by the federal government, but it’s something we want to do to increase highway safety," says Dan Meizenzahl, Department of Transportation spokesman.
It’s going to cost a little over three million dollars to fix the lighting systems.
