National Marine Fisheries crews are responding to reports of an entangled humpback whale 3 miles offshore of the Royal Hawaiian near Diamond Head.
Officials said they received reports of the whale’s entanglement Friday afternoon on their hotline.
Witnesses say the whale is entangled in buoys and rope. Crews will determine if the whale’s entanglement is life threatening.
If it is, they will begin operations to disentangle the mammal.
