Fireworks injuries drop significantly

The state Department of Health says a total of 22 fireworks related injuries were treated in Hawaii over the New Year period which was December 31st through January 2nd.

Officials say this was by far the lowest total ever recorded over the last 12 years.

It’s also more than four times lower than the annual average of 96 injuries over the last five years.

Most of the decrease was seen in Honolulu County from 79 injuries last year to 15 this year.

There were two injuries reported from Hawaii County, four from Kauai and one from Maui County.

The seven injuries was the lowest combined total from neighbor islands so far recorded.
