I am on a project called photamerica where I will be traveling all 50 states and doing about a week in each state…50 states in 50 weeks," says Josh Hailey, photographer.
The Mississippi native was inspired to collect images from all 50 states and managed to raise more than $20,000 dollars to fund his project.
"In the end I am going to have a book pretty much telling the story of modern America capsulating the year 2012 cause I think its going to be a pretty eventful year," says Hailey.
Working as a photographer and artist for the past 10 years Josh thought up the project as a method of sharing the special things about each state and getting to know its residents and visitors…to kickoff the tour he decided to come and spend a warm week in Hawaii first.
I am trying to get the best feeling of a state in a week," says Hailey.
Josh is documenting his travels using his canon camera and iphone then posting his experiences on his website and on social networking sites.
"The world is kinda becoming smaller in a lot of ways which is coming together back to grassroots," says Hailey.
And its through his grassroots effort and by word of mouth that he is making his journey across the country…inviting people to visit him online and in person by saying lets meet up as a way to offer information on where to go and what to shoot.
"I am pretty much just going on the whim of whoever goes to the website," says Hailey.
In the end after all the states have been visited and photographed…Josh will showcase his work in several gallery exhibits and a documentary.
"I am kinda excited because I don’t know what to expect its going to be great," says Hailey.
