Chinese New Year festivities

Chinese New Year is Monday, January 23 but Honolulu’s Chinatown is celebrating early with a weekend full of free events.

Friday, January 13, 2012
6 pm – 10 pm
Choy Chiang (Visitation to stores on Maunakea Street by Lion Dance Groups
Enjoy an evening filled with lion dances, fireworks and food vendors.

Saturday, January 14, 2012
9 am – 10 pm
Chinese New Year Night in Chinatown Festival and Parade
This all day block party will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 10 p.m.  Maunakea Street, Pauahi Street, and Smith Street will be lined with craft and food booths.

Saturday, January 14, 2012
3:30 pm
Chinese New Year’s Parade
The parade will start at the State Capitol and continue down Hotel Street and end in Chinatown.
It will feature more than 80 parade marching units, martial arts groups, lion dance performers, 2012 Miss Chinatown Hawaii, 2012 Miss Hawaii Chinese and 2012 Narcissus Queen and Court.

Saturday, January 14, 2012
Keiki Land Fair
10 am – 9 pm
Smith Street and in the Smith-Beretania Park area
There will be an interactive program with various Chinese New Year’s crafts and activities for children.
Participate in the Little Miss Chinatown Showcase at 1:30 pm.  It’s open to boys and girls under the age of 12.
