5.8-magnitude quake hits Philippine island; no tsunami warning issued

The U.S. Geological Survey said a magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit in the Babuyan Islands region off the northern tip of the Philippines.

The U.S.G.S. said the earthquake struck at 12:36 a.m. Sunday local time.

Its epicenter, with a depth of 15.8 miles, is about 317 miles north of Manila.

There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has not issued any warnings or advisories.
