Helicopter and sea searches are continuing off the coast of Italy, where a luxury cruise ship ran aground with more than 4,200 people aboard Friday night.
Three bodies have been recovered and about 40 people remain unaccounted for.
Divers had been searching the submerged portion of the ship for signs of survivors or victims, but they’ve been pulled out of the water for the night.
Passengers have been describing a chaotic and terrifying evacuation, crawling along hallways to try to reach safety as lights flickered out and objects crashed around them.
Some complain that the crew failed to give evacuation instructions once the emergency became clear and delayed lowering the lifeboats until the ship listed too far for many of them to be released. The ship’s captain was arrested.
