Heavy downpour closes Kauai school

The National Weather Service has issued a special marine warning for leeward and northwest waters off Kauai until 10:12 a.m.

Kauai Police advised officials at Hanalei School to shutdown as a precaution in the case that another heavy downpour would cause the Hanalei river to overflow making it dangerous for drivers crossing the Hanalei bridge.

Officials are transporting students who live east of the bridge to Princeville Library.

School officials hope to reopen the school Wednesday.

Police have not closed the Hanalei bridge.
