The future of hundreds of Hawaii transplant patients is in the hands of State lawmakers.
On Monday, House and Senate leaders will decide on details of a measure that could appropriate $3 million to assist Queens Hospital in opening a new transplant center.
A Kailua wife and mother was one of the last in the state to receive a kidney transplant before Hawaii Medical Center shut its doors.
She’s urging lawmakers to help other patients on the waiting list get their second lease on life.
"When the transplant center closed and the organs that became available were sent to the mainland, I thought of the people who were waiting, and lost their opportunity," said kidney transplant recipient Deneen Nakashima.
Monday’s meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the state capitol.
