Dozens gathered in Aiea Saturday to raise awareness about puppy mill breeding.
Community members, lawmakers and animal activists rallied outside the Pearl Kai Shopping Center.
"If you really want a pet you should consider adopting, a lot of have that work in the animal welfare field, we have a lot of homeless animals and homeless puppies," said Alicia Maluafiti of Poi Dogs and Popoki, an animal advocacy group.
Lawmakers say there are bills in the legislature aimed at increasing supervision of the industry.
