An alert neighbor helped prevent disaster after a fire broke out in Nuuanu.
Firefighters were called to the home on Puiwa Lane about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning after a neighbor smelled smoke.
The woman who lives there says she went to work this morning and forgot to turn off the stove.
"My heart is still pounding yeah it is something that I’m just shocked, said Janet Lim. "I was just lucky and thankful to have great neighbors here."
The fire was contained to the stove and did not cause widespread damage.
