The northbound lane of Kuhio Highway, near the Kapaka Street junction, was closed for more than two hours Friday afternoon following a traffic collision involving a police vehicle.
According to Kauai officials, it happened around 1:25 p.m. when a police vehicle rear-ended a white van, causing it to rear-end a grey two-door convertible.
All three vehicles were travelling north, officials say.
The officer driving the police vehicle was transported to Wilcox Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
KPD’s Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene and closed the northbound lane while crews worked to clear the roadway.
The highway was reopened just before 4 p.m.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
