Lawmakers are trying to pass a bill that would require people who ride a motorcycle, moped, bicycle, or all-terrain vehicles to wear a helmet.
Senator Kalani English, who introduced the bill, says it’s needed now.
"Oftentimes people tell us it’s free choice, like it’s their choice to wear the helmet or not. But it’s much like a seat belt – yes it’s their choice to drive a car but we require a seat belt for their own safety," English said.
Current law requires that folks under 16 years old wear a helmet when they’re riding a bicycle.
This bill would require everyone who rides a bicycle to wear a helmet.
