NOAA is teaming with the Waikiki aquarium and Oahu Visitors Bureau to turn an old World War two hangar at Ford Island into a place of learning.
A blessing ceremony was held today for the completion of phase two of the project.
The new marine science and storage facility will play a key role in the creation of an ocean education experience program.
We see a future where this center bustles as a hub of learning for school children and their teacher," says Dr. Jane Lubchenco, NOAA administrator.
The facility includes a 1500 foot deep salt-water well which cools 15 marine tanks for research.
The facility can also be used to rehabilitate injured monk seals and green sea turtles.
