Tense moments on Oahu’s north shore after a rubbish fire spread to a storage shed at the Waialua sugar mill.
Fire officials say farm management was conducting an unauthorized burn on the property.
“They didn’t know they’re also supposed to remain control of that fire and they left it unattended so the fire got away from the container spread to some combustible materials surrounding the storage container and entered that storage container,” said Capt. Terry Seelig.
Officials say the fire was preventable.
There was substantial damage to tractor tires, but no one was injured.
The owner estimates damage at $10,000.
