Suspect in drive-thru death sentenced to 10 years in prison

A Makiki man who ran over a woman with his car at a fast food drive-thru pleaded guilty to negligent homicide charges.

Raelynn Adams, 19, died from the incident.

It happened on January 30, 2010 at a McDonalds in Nanakuli.

Police say it started when Albert Birmingham honked his horn at a car in front of him in the McDonalds drive-thru.

Three people were inside that car — Adams, her boyfriend and another woman.

All three got of the car.

That’s when police say Birmingham veered around the car and hit Adams, killing her.

"We’ve already suffered for the last two years having to deal with this. If anyone is winning in this case right now it’s him," said Kimo Venne, Adams’ boyfriend.

Birmingham pleaded guilty to negligent homicide, fleeing the scene of an accident causing death or serious injury, and driving without a license.

He will get a ten year prison term when sentenced in April.

"The ten years is the maximum he can do. The must is he has to do three years, four months," Venne said.

Birmingham is a repeat felon, that’s why he will have to serve a mandatory minimum.

Birmingham was drunk when the incident happened.
