The incident happened just after 5pm Thursday evening past mile marker 47 on Hawaii Belt Road.
Seven people, all japanese national were in the van when it crashed.
The infant boy and 3 adults were taken to Hilo Medical Center. He was pronounced dead just before 8pm last night. Two women remain
hospitalized in serious condition. The infant was not in a car seat.
Police have opened a negligent homicide case.
