Solar, busses, building permits part of Maui mayor’s speech

Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa touted his administration’s efforts over the past year to make Maui County more efficient.

Arakawa delivered his State of the County address this morning, highlighting a solar rooftop project that’s expected to save the county a half million dollars a year, and a new Central Maui County baseyard that will streamline vehicle maintenance.

Arakawa says efforts are also underway to make the county more business friendly.

"The Department of Public Works has introduced some key amendments that will require departments to review and return or approve building permit within 30 days," he said.

The mayor says the county is also seeking more federal funding to expand Maui’s bus system.
