A 24-foot sailboat jammed up the channel at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor Saturday.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources had a patrol boat out there, making sure no one accidentally ran into the upside-down boat.
The boat, owned by a non-permanent slip leaseholder, was upside-down and floating in the middle of the channel for the greater part of the day.
According to the owner, it ran aground during a race Friday at around 11 p.m. The owner and his girlfriend then to dislodge it the following morning. Their efforts caused it to float out into the channel, where it then rolled over and became a navigational hazard to other boaters.
DLNR asked that the owner call a salvage company to remove it.
Salvage company Parker Marine arrived at around 5 p.m. Saturday to move the damaged boat to an interior part of the harbor. They’ll take it out of the water Monday morning.
Nobody was injured.
