Apple introduces new iPad

NEW YORK (AP) — As expected, Apple is unveiling a new iPad model. New features include a sharper screen and a faster processor. Apple says the new display will be even sharper than the high-definition television set in the living room.

The company says it will show more saturated colors than previous models. And it says the new model will be four times faster.

CEO Tim Cook said Wednesday that, "The momentum behind (the) iPad has been incredible and has surprised just about everyone."

He says the number of iPads sold in the last three months of 2011 was greater than any single vendor sold of traditional PCs. Apple sold 15.43 million iPads in that quarter to bring the total to 55 million.

He says the iPad is "reinventing portable computing and … outstripping the wildest of predictions."

The new iPad will go on sale in the U.S., Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland and Japan on March 16.
