The Department of Parks and Recreation will remove a large Earpod tree at Ala Moana Park Thursday.
The tree, located at the ewa end of the park, needs to be removed for public safety, as it has several structural defects. Replacement of the tree will be included in a larger planting project for the park in the near future.
Earpod trees are known for their spherical crowns, seedpods and large sizes.
