Highlands Intermediate students win popsicle bridge contest

Dozens of middle school students put their engineering skills to the test Thursday morning.
They designed and built two-foot-long bridges using just popsicle sticks, glue and their imaginations.
Their bridges were then tested to see which could hold the most weight.
Winners were decided based on a ratio of the weight of the bridge and the weight it held.
Highlands Intermediate students took first place with a popsicle stick bridge that weighed less than a pound, but held 207 pounds.
The event was part of UH Manoa’s Junior Engineering Expo.
