Volunteer contractors to renovate Honolulu charity

HONOLULU (AP) – Volunteer construction contractors will be renovating the main facility of a Honolulu charity that supports families with seriously ill children.

HUGS stands for help, understanding and group support. It’s a nonprofit that supports nearly 200 families across Hawaii by providing programs to help with the emotional and financial hardships of caring for a seriously ill child.

It’s operating out of a converted home that needs renovating. The volunteer contractors will spend Friday building playground and picnic areas. They’ll also widen doors, improve landscaping and make other improvements.

The effort is being organized the AGC Charities Group as part of its annual home renovation effort. It’s being held in Honolulu to coincide with the annual convention of the Associated General Contractors of America.
