The HPD bomb squad was called to 7th Avenue around 10:20 a.m. Sunday.
Police say someone found a suspicious device, which had a triggering mechanism, on top of a gas line device.
Six residents of a Kaimuki home were temporarily evacuated.
"They were looking in all the cars parked on the street," said resident Mark Kanemura. "They blocked the streets and didn’t let anybody in or out."
Police re-opened the roads three hours later.
Bomb technicians took the device and are examining it. There is still no word on how it got there.
