Editorial: Hold firm on Hawaii decarbonization

A year ago, Hawaii agreed to a first-in-the-nation settlement with young climate activists, pledging action to eliminate fossil fuel-burning sources of carbon pollution and greenhouse gases that acidify the oceans and warm the planet — and threaten Hawaii’s future. The “Navahine v. Hawaii Department of Transportation” agreement established our state as a national leader on climate and environmental stewardship — a position that Gov. Josh Green, lawmakers and Hawaii’s voters must recognize, value and support, because Hawaii has much at stake.
